Porter Airlines Takes Delivery of Their First Embraer E195-E2
SÃO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS, Brazil and TORONTO, Dec. 21, 2022 /CNW/ – The first two of 50 Embraer E195-E2 ordered by Porter Airlines have been delivered in a ceremony at Embraer’s headquarters in Brazil. Porter’s new E195-E2 fleet will launch the airline’s new elevated economy experience that aims to challenge the economy offering of every North American airline, with a new level of generosity and thoughtful service not seen in contemporary economy air travel.
In the run up to the new year, Embraer will deliver a further three aircraft to Porter.
Porter, the North American launch customer for Embraer’s E195-E2, is opening up operations throughout North America, including to the west coast, southern U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. The aircraft will initially be deployed from Toronto Pearson International Airport, with Halifax, Montreal and Ottawa also seeing new services with the E195-E2. Porter has chosen to configure the 146-seat aircraft in a comfortable 132-seat all-economy configuration, with a variety of seat pitches on offer for their guests: 36, 34, and 30 inches.

In total, Porter has orders with Embraer for up to 100 E195-E2 aircraft; 50 firm commitments and 50 purchase rights. In 2021, Porter ordered 30 Embraer E195-E2 jets, with purchase rights for a further 50 aircraft, worth US$5.82 billion at list price, with all options exercised. A firm order for a further 20 aircraft followed in 2022, valued at US$1.56 billion.

Embraer E195-E2 and E190-E2 Receives Type Certification in Canada

Embraer’s E2 family of commercial jets, the E195-E2 and E190-E2, has received Type Certification from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), following certification from ANAC (Brazil), the FAA (USA), and EASA (Europe) in 2019 and 2018 respectively.
The delivery of the first of fifty E195-E2 ordered by Toronto based Porter Airlines, which will also be the first E195-E2 to operate in North America, will take place at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil, in the coming days.

The world’s most efficient family of single-aisle aircraft is shaping the regional market with its sustainable technologies, superior cabin comfort, excellent economics and optimal range. As operators look to the future, renewing ageing fleets and expanding networks, the E2 will be at the heart of this transformation.
The E195-E2 is the most environmentally friendly aircraft in its class, with a 25% lower fuel burn than the previous generation aircraft, with E190-E2 achieving 17% lower emissions. Both aircraft have the lowest levels of external noise, and the longest maintenance intervals in the single-aisle jet category – with 10,000 flight hours for basic checks and no calendar limit for typical E-Jet operations. This means an additional 15 days of aircraft utilization over a period of ten years compared to current generation E-Jets.
The E190-E2’s take-off performance is particularly notable, the aircraft’s range from airports with hot-and-high conditions, such as Denver and Mexico City, increases by 600nm compared to current-generation aircraft.

The head of Porter Airlines says the ongoing pandemic, despite delivering a financial hit to the company, has allowed them to focus on work behind the scenes.
Michael Deluce, Porter’s president and CEO, said although the airline has been grounded since March 2020, they’ve used the time to purchase new planes to expand operations.
“Certainly the Canadian aviation space has had a very challenging 16 months, unlike no other time in history,” Deluce said. “Porter took steps early on to suspend operations and relative to other carriers, we have fared reasonably well.”
That includes the purchase of 80 E-195 Embraer planes, which will run primarily out of Toronto, Halifax, Montreal and Ottawa.
“They will allow Porter to extend its range from eastern Canada to all of North America, Canada, the U.S….Mexico and the Caribbean,” he said.
Deluce says other existing aircraft were also refurbished, including the 29 dedicated to Northern Ontario routes, and he anticipates the full roster of flights will begin October 6.
“We have done a complete interior overhaul of those aircraft,” he said. “We have brand new seats and we have brand new carpet sidewalls, overhead bins. We’ve even restored the lavs.”
Operations out of northern Ontario will begin a little sooner, September 8 on flights to Billy Bishop airport in Toronto.
“Since our inception, we’ve served all the major markets in the north, including Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay…and that will continue to be the case as we move forward,” he said.
“I think by October 6, we’ll have all of our northern Ontario destinations up and running.”
Another incentive for returning passengers is the expansion of the airline’s payment options, as well as the introduction of ticket financing, Deluce said.
“When Porter returns to the air we’ll be seeing the Porter product at its absolute best,” he said. “And I think passengers are going to love returning to the skies on Porter.”
Porter Airlines extends pilot simulator training agreement with FlightSafety International, including new E2 aircraft
TORONTO, July 22, 2021 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines has finalized a new eight-year agreement with FlightSafety International to continue as the airline’s exclusive pilot training partner. This includes the installation of North America’s first E2 flight simulator to support Porter’s recent order for up to 80 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
The new simulator comes online in April 2022, ahead of Porter beginning E2 operations in the second half of next year. It is expanding its current regional network to serve destinations across North America, including the west coast, southern U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean.
Porter is continuing its 15-year relationship with FlightSafety International at the company’s Toronto Learning Centre. Over 650 Porter pilots will receive ongoing training at the facility for the E2 and De Havilland Dash 8-400.
“This agreement is an example of how Porter’s investment in new aircraft is creating new jobs and opportunities for Canada’s aerospace industry,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “FlightSafety is a long-standing partner of Porter’s and our pilots will continue receiving the very best training with them for years to come.”
The flight simulators that Porter uses at FlightSafety are certified to the highest Transport Canada standards. Pilots are able to experience all aspects of real-world flying, including full motion simulation and actual airport environments, in a controlled setting. This allows for the most realistic and effective training environment, including safely dealing with unusual and complex scenarios.
Porter and FlightSafety have additional agreements for training flight attendants and maintenance engineers on the Dash 8-400. This is part of an overall training program that ensures Porter team members are among the safest in the world.

Porter Airlines expanding service across North America by acquiring up to 80 Embraer E195-E2s
TORONTO, July 12, 2021 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is extending its award-winning service to destinations throughout North America with the introduction of up to 80 state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient Embraer E195-E2 aircraft into its fleet. The planes have transcontinental range and will enter into service with Porter starting in the second half of 2022.
Porter is Embraer’s North American launch customer for the E2. The total aircraft order is valued at up to USD $5.82 billion at current list prices, with 30 firm commitments and 50 purchase right options. The aircraft are being acquired by Porter Aircraft Leasing Corp., a sister company of Porter Airlines. This investment enhances competition, elevates passenger service levels and creates as many as 6,000 new jobs based on 80 aircraft deliveries.
The ability to convert purchase rights to smaller E190-E2s is included in the agreement. This provides opportunities to introduce non-stop service in markets where connecting flights are often the only option today. It also enables higher-frequency service for routes with greater demand.
Porter intends to operate the E2s to popular destinations from Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and Toronto Pearson International Airport. The introduction of specific routes will be determined in advance of aircraft deliveries.

While establishing service at Pearson Airport for the first time, flights from Porter’s existing hub at downtown Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport remain core to its business and will continue with high-frequency regional service on turboprop aircraft. Service is confirmed to restart at Billy Bishop on Sept. 8, following a temporary shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and associated travel restrictions. The airport is essential to the airline’s immediate plans for re-establishing flights and developing future routes. The E2s will not operate at this airport.
“Our commitment to Billy Bishop Airport is not changing,” said Robert Deluce, founder and executive chairman, Porter Airlines. “Our corporate headquarters at Billy Bishop is being maintained and we will continue serving the same network of regional markets from downtown Toronto. The E195-E2 accommodates between 120 and 146 passengers. The interior complements Porter’s traditional service offering, with a passenger-focused design emphasizing space and comfort. Features include aisle or window seating for every passenger, with no middle seats, plus large windows and overhead bins, and cabin mood lighting. Porter is currently finalizing its preferred configuration and additional passenger experience details, such as in-flight entertainment and onboard service.

The E2 is the most environmentally-friendly single-aisle aircraft family, measured by sound and CO2 emissions. The E195-E2 is certified to the strictest international standard for aircraft noise, at 65% quieter than previous generation types. Carbon emissions are nearly 10% lower per trip, with up to 25% less CO2 emissions per seat. Combined with Porter’s existing De Havilland Dash 8-400s, the airline will have one of the world’s most environmentally sustainable commercial aircraft fleets.
Canada-based aerospace companies contribute greater than 37% of the E2’s main systems. The engines are produced by Pratt & Whitney Canada in Quebec, with revolutionary geared-turbofan technology being the most significant component of the aircraft’s incredible fuel efficiency and minimal sound profile. Additionally, Ontario-based Thales produces select avionics and Quebec-based Alta Precision the main landing gear. Porter’s purchase supports skilled jobs and ongoing innovation within this important economic sector.
