WestJet Update: 24 April ~ Donates Million Pretzels and First Cargo-only Charters

From WestJet

WESTJET DONATES MORE THAN ONE MILLION PACKAGES OF PRETZELS

With less aircraft flying, and simplified inflight service on the ones that are, WestJet is handing out a lot less snacks to guests these days.

WestJetters on our Catering Services and Distribution Centre teams started to reach out to community groups to donate extra food items with about 30 days left on their expiry date.

To date, 5,376 cases (almost 1,074,200 packages) of pretzels have been shared with local Calgary and Toronto food banks, shelters, community groups and meal programs.

WESTJET OPERATES FIRST CARGO-ONLY CHARTERS

On Sunday, April 26, WestJet will operate the airline’s first two cargo charters from Dublin to Atlanta on its 787 Dreamliners.

The Dreamliners will depart this afternoon from Calgary (YYC) and will carry medical supplies from Dublin (DUB) to Atlanta (ATL) via Toronto (YYZ) on Sunday.

As the COVID-19 crisis has worsened and global supply lines have been cutoff due to the closing of borders and less international flying, WestJet Cargo has been working closely with clients to ensure support of shipping essential products continues.

The airline is currently offering increased cargo capacity across its fleet to support the supply chain:

  • Domestic cargo network: Various cargo options are available through our scheduled domestic network – more information available here.
  • Charters: Full aircraft are available for cargo charters – including a Boeing 737, 787 or a Q400 – more information available here.

CONTACT CENTRE WAIT TIMES:

  • We’re experiencing very high volumes for our phone, email and social media support channels.
  • In the effort to assist guests with imminent travel plans, we are asking all other guests to refrain from contacting us until 72 hours in advance of their flight to ensure we are able to prioritize our queue.
  • We appreciate and thank our guests for their patience and understanding during this time.
