The Township of Seguin will be receiving $5 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to help with the cost of the Parry Sound and Area Municipal Airport expansion project.

Premier Doug Ford, joined the Zoom meeting on Feb. 4 to express his congratulations.

“This is a legacy project that will last for decades and decades … Make sure I’m there when we cut that ribbon and get the bulldozer going down the runway,” said Ford.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller said that a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes of the airport expansion.

“This project will definitely expand the economic development potential of the airport and the industrial park,” said Miller. “The airport has a track record of success — previous expansion has brought many jobs and been an economic boon to the entire region.”

According to Seguin’s Mayor Ann MacDermaid, the airport is a vital piece of economic and regional infrastructure and provides essential services, such as medevac, search and rescue, and fire suppression.

“Today’s investment will enable an important runway reconstruction and expansion that will provide access to several acres of buildable land with essential infrastructure,” said MacDermaid.

“Once completed, the Parry Sound and area airport expects to attract many new businesses and provide important transportation infrastructure to enable further growth for the entire region.”
