Waterloo Region – Today Flair Airlines announced a formal arrangement with the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF). Flair Airlines will provide non-stop domestic air service to Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Halifax multiple times a week. The current anticipated start of service is May 1, 2021 pending the lifting of travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

“Our community deserves affordable travel across Canada and we are pleased to welcome Flair Airlines to the Region of Waterloo International Airport,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “Once pandemic restrictions are lifted, the addition of Flair’s services will provide further connectivity to other economic hubs, create local jobs, build partnerships and help support the recovery of the local economy.”

“Welcoming Flair Airlines to YKF is one more way we’re providing connectivity to other destinations, said Helen Jowett, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Economic Development Committee. “Non-stop travel between cities to and from our airport means access to other carriers will now be possible. A true community asset for our region.”

Launched in 2017, Flair Airlines is Canada’s only independent ultra-low cost carrier (ULCC). That means they operate with a low-cost business model and offer customers tickets at a much lower price. As of December 2020, Flair have flown almost 18,000 flights with approximately 2.3 million passengers. Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Flair will expand service from 10 to 19 Canadian destinations.

“Flair is thrilled to be working with the Region of Waterloo International Airport and to bring the freedom of affordable travel to the people of this region,” said Stephen Jones, President and CEO of Flair Airlines. “With the expected recovery from the pandemic this summer, Flair and YKF will be there with low fares to give more Canadians the opportunity to travel to visit friends and family and to see more of this beautiful country.”
